Monticello W.C. HORSEMAN'S ASSOCIATION MEETS FIRST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH

The Wayne County Horseman's Association would like to invite you to join

them on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room

of the Wayne County Library. Our focus is a shared interest in the horse.

Membership, however, does not require horse ownership. There is diversity in

our annual activities which include a spring and fall horse show, monthly

trail rides, picnics, Coggins testing, and participation in community

events. As a result of our fund raising efforts, we provide continuing

FREE TAX HELP

The AARP Tax-Aide site will open on February 2 at 1 p.m. in the basement

of the Monticello City Hall. The site will remain open on a walk-in basis on

Tuesdays only from 1-5 p.m. through April 13. The AARP Tax-Aide program was

created to meet this need and to help low and middle-income taxpayers

prepare and file their income tax returns with the IRS, free of charge.

Answers to tax questions are not available by phone. Please bring the

following with you when you come. Copy of last year's income tax return; W-2

forms; Unemployment statements; SSA-1099 form; All 1099 forms (1099-INT,

1099-DIV, 1099-B, etc.); 1099-misc.; 1099-R; All forms indicating federal

tax; Dependent care provider information; All receipts or cancelled checks

of itemizing deductions; Social security cards; Notice 1378, Economic

Stimulus Payment Notice.



AMERICAN REDCROSS

The American Redcross is accepting monetary donations to support

earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Potential donors wishing to support this

disaster may designate their gift to Haiti Relief.

Wayne County/ MONTICELLO HAZARD MITIGATION MEETING

The Wayne County/ Monticello Hazard Mitiga-tion Planning Sub-committee

will meet on January 27 at 10 a.m. in the W.C. Courthouse small courtroom.

The purpose of the meeting will be to label a county map with hazards that

have occurred, such as flooding, tornadoes, etc., and to identify any

mitigation efforts‹such as bridge work, sirens, weather radios, that have

been completed since March 2006.



VALENTINES' CHILI SUPPER

There will be a Valentines' chili supper for friends and family on

Friday, February 12 at the Wayne County Extension Office. The W.C.

Homemakers will be hosting a chili supper from 4-8 p.m. The cost will be $5

ZION BAPTIST CHURCH

Zion Baptist Church will be having special singers The Chimney and Rock

ELDER ABUSE MEETING

The Regional Meeting of the Lake Cumberland Area Developmental District

Elder Abuse Council will be on January 28. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.

(CDT) in the Lake Cumberland Area Development District Conference room in

Russell Springs. All public officials, law enforcement officials, and

concerned citizens against elder abuse are encouraged to attend and become

Wayne County Historical Society TO MEET JAN. 19

The W.C. Historical Society will be holding a meeting January 19 at 7

p.m. at the William Crenshaw Kennedy Jr. Memorial Musuem. The program will

be presented by Rev. Oral Denney. He will be entertaining with stories of

his childhood in Southern Wayne County.



MONTICELLO MS GROUP

The Monticello MS Group monthly meeting will be temporarily moved to

McDonalds in Monticello. The meetings take place the first Thursday of each

3RD ANNUAL CUPID'S SWEETHEART PAGEANT

The 3rd Annual Cupid's Sweetheart pageant will be held February 6 at the

Cumberland County Middle School gym. The registration will begin at 9 a.m.

with the pageant categories beginning at 10 a.m. for 0-4 years old, 11 a.m.

for 5-9 years old and 11:30 a.m. for 10-21 years old. There will be various

FOREIGN BUYERS NOTIFICATION

The Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act (AFIDA) requires all

foreign owners of U.S. agricultural land to report their holdings to the

Secretary of Agriculture. Foreign persons who have purchased or sold

agricultural land in the county are requred to report the transaction to FSA

within 90 days of the closing. Failure to submit the AFIDA report could

result in civil penalties of up to 25 percent of the fair market value of

the property.



DALE HOLLOW LAKE STATE RESORT PARK

MENDING WORKSHOP

A free mending workshop will be held at the Wayne County Extension

office on Thursday, January 28. The class will be held at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

DEFENSIVE ACTION AGAINST DRUGS

Defensive Action Against Drugs of Wayne County will have a regular

monthly meeting on Thursday, January 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the ASPIRE Center

WAYNE COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER

Wayne County Adult Education Center has resumed classes on Tuesday and

Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. This will give an opportunity to individuals

who aren't able to attend day classes. The center is open weekly on Monday,

Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-7

p.m. Our Family Literacy program offers Parent and Children Together (PACT)

Time on Tuesdays 3 p.m.-5 p.m. with homework help for school age children

and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. There will be Baby (PACT) Parent and Child

Together Time.

Classes are always free. We offer many opportunities for you at the

Adult Education Center: earn a gold or silver employability certificate

through Work keys; earn a G.E.D.; learn to read; upgrade basic general

education skills; learn to type; learn basic computer skills; study for

drivers or CDL permit; enroll in family literacy; learn English as a second

language; or Kentucky Para-Educators Assessment (teacher's aide test.)

WAYNE COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCIL

The Wayne County Community Health Council (Local Champions Against Drug

Use) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in the Wayne County

Hospital cafeteria meeting room. Come a little earlier and enjoy lunch.

Health-related agencies and concerned citizens are both welcome. Be a part

of helping set community wide health goals and complete projects. To date

the council: has conducted and published two community health surveys and

held community health fairs targeting needs identified on health surveys;

serves as local Champions Groups; garnered an estimated $40,000 for Wayne

County to use towards drug education and prevention efforts; and continues

to develop and distribute educational material related to drug prevention

efforts, parenting tips, health habits, etc.



THE HOPE CENTER

The Hope Center is in need of the following items‹paper products,

cooking and baking food items, canned foods and meats, diapers, nice

bedding, dishes and towels for our burn out room. Any donations would be

WAYNE COUNTY SADDLE CLUB

The Wayne County Saddle Club meeting time has been changed from the

third Monday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month. We invite all

horse lovers to join our club and meet with us.



ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disease which attacks

the brain. It is the most common form of dementia and its causes are

unknown. More than four million Americans are diagnosed with the disease.

The Alzheimer's Association would like to announce a support group for

family members and caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This

monthly support group will meet at the Russell Springs Active Day Center in

Russell Springs, Ky. the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The setting is

a small discussion group with an emphasis on sharing feelings, thoughts and

experiences.



FREE GOSPEL JAM AT ROCK WORSHIP CENTER

The Rock Worship Center in Somerset, Ky. sponsors a free Gospel Jam,

FREE FOREST STEWARDSHIP PLANS FOR PRIVATE WOODLAND OWNERS

The Kentucky Division of Forestry prepares Forest Stewardship Plans for

private woodland owners as a free service.

At your request, a forester will walk over your property with you while

explaining the condition of your woodland and listening to your objectives.

The forester will then make recommendations to help you set and achieve

management goals for your forestland. The recommendations will be summarized

in the Forest Stewardship Plan which will include information on timber

production, fish and wildlife management and management for recreation,

aesthetics and water quality.

Contented Heart Quilt Guild will have a "Sit and Sew" day each first
