W.C. EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS ANNUAL MEETING
The Wayne County Extension Homemakers annual meeting will be April 29 at
6 p.m. in the Wayne County High School Cafeteria. All members invited to

D.A.V. ROAD BLOCK MAY 3
The Wayne County Disabled American Veterans will have a road block May 3
at the intersection of highways 90 and 1275. All proceeds will be used to
build a war memorial in Monticello.
NATIONAL SCRAPBOOKING DAY
National Scrapbooking Day is Saturday, May 3 and everyone is invited to
attend an event in the basement of the Wayne County Public Library from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants must pre-pay and a light lunch will be provided.

WCHS 1960 CLASS REUNION
The old Wayne County High School cafeteria building will be the site for

PYLES REUNION
The Pyles reunion will be Saturday, May 10 with the meal served 2 p.m.

REVIVAL SERVICES AT MT. ZION
On Sunday evening, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. Mt. Zion Baptist Church will
begin Spring Evangelistic Services. The speaker for the week will be Brian
Rafferty, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Russell Springs. Brian is a
2001 graduate of Liberty Baptist College in Lynchburg, Va. He began his
ministry at Liberty in 2004. The church now averages 190 on Sunday morning.
Brian and his wife, Dana have two children. Pastor McKim and the
congregation invite you to come and be inspired by the dynamic proclamation

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITY
Steubenville Baptist Church began a 10-week women's Bible study "A Heart

TOTAL DELIVERANCE PROGRAM FOR DRUG/ALCOHOL ABUSE
World Wide Ministries Church of God will host a faith-based,

RED CROSS GOLF SCRAMBLE
The Lake Cumberland Area Red Cross benefiting Pulaski, Wayne, Clinton
and McCreary counties will have a golf scramble Wednesday, May 21 at Eagles
Nest County Club with shotgun start at 1 p.m. It is a four person scramble
format. Deadline to enter is May 16. There will be door prizes early, free
hot dogs and refreshments on the course and awards given.
W.C. PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE ELECTION
The Parent Advisory Committee of Wayne County High School will hold and
election to elect two parent members of the school based decision making
council for the 2008-2009 school year on Thursday, May 1 between the hours
of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Wayne County High School's Administra-tive
Office. All parents/ guardians of students who will be enrolled in grades
9-12 for the 2008-2009 school year are eligible to vote. Nominations will be
taken until 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25. Parents may nominate themselves or
another parent with their consent. Nomina-tion forms may be picked up at the
principal's office.
JEREMY HICKS MOTORCYCLE RALLY MAY 31
The Jeremy Hicks Motorcycle Rally to benefit St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital will be Saturday, May 31. All proceeds will benefit the
children at St. Jude. The ride will originate at Action Motorsports in
Monticello and will end at Wolf River Resort at Dale Hollow Lake. All riders
will receive a t-shirt and lunch as well as a chance at many great door
prizes such as a shotgun, pontoon rental, motorcycle accessories, etc. More
information will be released in the next few weeks. Please ride with us to
help fight childhood cancer.
WALKER ELE. SPRING FLING
Walker Elementary Spring Fling will be held Friday, May 2 from 5:30 p.m.

LCCAA CHARITY GOLF SCRAMBLE
Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency will host a charity golf
scramble on Thursday, May 15 at Somerset Country Club in Somerset, Ky. There
is a fee to participate. All proceeds will benefit the senior citizen

MUC ANNUAL FLUSHING
The Monticello Utility Commission's annual flushing program scheduled
April 21-26 is to insure the highest quality of water to its customers.
During flushing, customers may notice discoloration of their water. If this
occurs, customers should run water in order to clean up any discoloration.
Customers are encouraged to check for discolored water before doing laundry
or washing dishes. Customers may also experience little or no pressure

Equity Group Kentucky Division, LLC has cancelled the Miss Relay for

BRUMLEY FAMILY REUNION
The Brumley Family Reunion will be Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in

RELAY FOR LIFE MOTORCYCLE RIDE
Equity Group Kentucky Division, LLC has rescheduled the 2008 Relay for
Life Motorcycle Ride for Saturday, April 26 with a rain date of Sunday,
April 27. The run will commence at Mountain View Park in Clinton County at 8
a.m. Entries will be taken until 9 a.m. There will be prizes at the end of
the ride with food and drinks available. There is a donation fee per bike.

The Wayne County Senior Citizen Center offers a variety of activities:

Wayne County Women's Cancer Coalition is planning an Information,

SLAVEN FAMILY REUNION
The Slaven, Slavin, Slavy, Slavey (any spelling) Family Reunion will be
Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m.-3p.m. in McCreary County, Ky. at Sand Hill
Camp shelter house, located on Highway 700 five miles east of U.S. Highway

your history. Write down and bring along as many names and dates on

MARCH OF DIMES YARD SALE
Are you one of those people who can't get enough yard sales? Then you

March of Dimes yard sale. Donations will be accepted each Friday in April in
the Town and Country Plaza Shopping Center parking lot. Watch for the

4-H CANS FOR CAMP
If you collect aluminum cans, you may drop them off at the Extension

MIDWEST SPORTSMAN BASS TOURNAMENTS
Midwest Sportsman Club will be hosting bass tournaments from Pumpkin
Creek ramp on Lake Cumberland on May 3 from 6 a.m.-2 p.m.; and May 17 from 6

The Wayne County Door to Door Cleanup is continuing for metal/white
goods and large household items. The communities next are Alpha, Windy,
Powersburg, Slickford, Highway 200, Duncan Valley, Cooper and Mt. Pisgah
areas.

anytime to get your name on the list for pickups. We will begin picking up

WIC INCOME GUIDELINES
WIC (the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children)
is a national program that helps low-income families meet nutritional needs.
Who is financially eligible for WIC? Pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding
women, infants and children up to age five years may be eligible if their
family income is at or below the 185 percent of the federal poverty level.
For example: a family of one with a yearly income of $18,889; a family
of two with a yearly income of $25,327; or a family of four with a yearly
income of $38,203 may be eligible. Call your local health department to find
out if you or your children qualify for WIC. The WIC Program does not
discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, sex or
disability.
REVELATION STUDY
South Main Church is studying Revelation on Wednesday nights beginning

The Wayne County High School Site Based Council's regular meeting time

W.C. HORSEMAN'S ASSOCIATION
The Wayne County Horseman's Association would like to invite you to join
them on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room
of the Wayne County Library. Our focus is a shared interest in the horse.
Membership, however, does not require horse ownership.
There is diversity in our annual activities which include a spring and
fall horse show, monthly trail rides, picnics, Coggins testing, Christmas
Party and participation in community events like Old Fashion Days. As a
result of our fund raising efforts, we provide continuing education

MT. PISGAH CEMETERY UPKEEP
Anyone having family buried at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery is asked to donate to

SHARING THE LOVE OF CRAFTS
There are many opportunities to share your love of crafts in Wayne
County. You may want to be a part of the Homemakers Craft Club which meets
each second Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rescue Squad. Each month the club does
a different craft. You may want to share a craft that you know with others
in the community. The Extension Service can connect you with learners.
Perhaps you would like to share a craft at Heritage Skills Retreat at the

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Habitat for Humanity will meet the second Tuesday of each month at First

WAYNE COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER
Wayne County Adult Education Center has resumed classes on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. This will give an opportunity to individuals
who aren't able to attend day classes. The center is open weekly on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-7
p.m. Our Family Literacy program offers Parent and Children Together (PACT)
Time on Tuesdays 3 p.m.-5 p.m. with homework help for school age children
and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. There will be Baby (PACT) Parent and Child
Together Time.
Classes are always free. We offer many opportunities for you at the
Adult Education Center: earn a gold or silver employability certificate
through Work keys; earn a G.E.D.; learn to read; upgrade basic general
education skills; learn to type; learn basic computer skills; study for
drivers or CDL permit; enroll in family literacy; learn English as a second
language; or Kentucky Para-Educators Assessment (teacher's aide test.)

WAYNE COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCIL
The Wayne County Community Health Council (Local Champions Against Drug
Use) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in the Wayne County
Hospital cafeteria meeting room. Come a little earlier and enjoy lunch.
Health-related agencies and concerned citizens are both welcome. Be a part
of helping set community wide health goals and complete projects. To date
the council: has conducted and published two community health surveys and
held community health fairs targeting needs identified on health surveys;
serves as local Champions Groups; garnered an estimated $40,000 for Wayne
County to use towards drug education and prevention efforts; and continues
to develop and distribute educational material related to drug prevention
efforts, parenting tips, health habits, etc.
THE HOPE CENTER
The Hope Center is in need of the following items‹paper products,
cooking and baking food items, canned foods and meats, diapers, nice
bedding, dishes and towels for our burn out room. Any donations would be

WAYNE COUNTY SADDLE CLUB
The Wayne County Saddle Club meeting time has been changed from the
third Monday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month. We invite all
horse lovers to join our club and meet with us.
ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disease which attacks
the brain. It is the most common form of dementia and its causes are
unknown. More than four million Americans are diagnosed with the disease.
The Alzheimer's Association would like to announce a support group for
family members and caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This
monthly support group will meet at the Russell Springs Active Day Center in
Russell Springs, Ky. the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The setting is
a small discussion group with an emphasis on sharing feelings, thoughts and
experiences.
FREE GOSPEL JAM AT ROCK WORSHIP CENTER
The Rock Worship Center in Somerset, Ky. sponsors a free Gospel Jam,

FREE FOREST STEWARDSHIP PLANS FOR PRIVATE WOODLAND OWNERS
The Kentucky Division of Forestry prepares Forest Stewardship Plans for
private woodland owners as a free service.
At your request, a forester will walk over your property with you while
explaining the condition of your woodland and listening to your objectives.
The forester will then make recommendations to help you set and achieve
management goals for your forestland. The recommendations will be summarized
in the Forest Stewardship Plan which will include information on timber
production, fish and wildlife management and management for recreation,
aesthetics and water quality.

SIT AND SEW
Contented Heart Quilt Guild will have a "Sit and Sew" day each first
