PAWS IN THE PARK
The Wayne County Humane Society, Pawsibilities Unleashed, DAAD, Regional
Victims Service Program and other community groups would like to invite
everyone to Paws in the Park Saturday, May 31 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. There will
be games, prizes, food, and special guest "The Chicken Man." Come join the
fun and have a great day celebrating man's best friend.

BEST PET PHOTO CONTEST
The Wayne County Humane Society is sponsoring a Best Pet photo contest.

WALKER ELEMENTARY SPRING FLING
Walker Elementary Spring Fling will be held Friday, May 9 from 5:30 p.m.

FIRST CHURCH OF GOD REVIVAL

ANNUAL BROWN-BOWLIN REUNION
The family of the late Herman "Brownie" Brown and the late Ruth Bowlin
Brown will be having a potluck dinner and reunion on Saturday, May 17 at
Monticello-Wayne County Memorial Park. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. All
friends and relatives are invited to join us in a day of fun and fellowship.
Please bring a covered dish and enjoy this special day with us. We are also
asking everyone to bring a copy of their favorite recipe so that we can

OPEN QUARTER HORSE SHOW
Cumberland River Wranglers 4-H Horse Club is hosting an open horse show
Saturday, May 17 at Marrowbone Community Park (10 miles west of Burkesville,
just off of Hwy. 90). The show starts at 6 p.m. with training beginning at 3
p.m. There is an admission price. Concessions are available. Payback is 75
percent with added money in 4-D poles and barrels. For information, contact

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL AT FREEDOM UNITED BAPTIST CHURCH
Homecoming services at Freedom United Baptist Church will be Sunday, May

KY APPALACHIAN CRAFT FAIR
The Center for Rural Development is hosting the Kentucky Appalachian
Craft Fair‹From Our Hands to Yours Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29. During
the fair, artists and craftspeople from southern and eastern Kentucky will
come together to display their talents and offer a variety of works for
demonstration and for purchase. Individual artists and crafters will be
exhibiting as well as craft guilds and cooperatives around the region.

W.C. YOUTH SERVICES CENTER ADVISORY COUNCIL
On June 3, the Wayne County Youth Services Center Advisory Council will
meet at Wayne County High School in room 154 at 9 a.m. Non-members are
welcomed, too.

MILL SPRINGS CORNBREAD FESTIVAL
The Monticello Woman's Club is sponsoring the Cornbread Festival on
Saturday, May 24 at Mill Springs Park. Lunch will be served from 11
a.m.-1:30 p.m. for a fee. There will be arts and crafts exhibits. Mill
grinding exhibition at 2 p.m. The gift shop will be open from 9:30 a.m.-5
p.m.

BENEFIT POKER RUN PLANNED FOR BRUMLEY
There will be a "Born to Ride" Motorcycle Poker Run on Saturday, June 7
for Phil Brumley. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the National Guard
Armory. The first 100 riders to register will receive a free t-shirt. The
ride will begin at noon. There is a cost per bike and per rider. All
proceeds will go to help with medical expenses for Brumley, who suffered a
heart attack two years ago and spent 11 months in the hospital. There will
be a hog roast following the ride. Anyone who would like more information

GAP CREEK CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
There will be a meeting of the Gap Creek Cemetery Association at 7 p.m.
Thursday, May 8 at Gap Creek Baptist Church. All persons who have relatives
buried in this cemetery or who are interested in the maintenance of the
cemetery are urged to attend.

VETERANS BENEFITS FIELD REP.
A veterans benefits field representative will be at the National Guard
Armory in Monticello from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7. Veterans and
their families will be provided counseling and assistance in filing claims
for state and federal benefits. This is a free service provided by the

SAVE ON AUTO INSURANCE
AARP will hold a 50 and Alive Class May 28 and 29 at the Senior Citizen

BENEFIT SINGING
There will be an annual benefit singing for the upkeep of Sherd Dobbs
Cemetery at Cherokee United Baptist Church on May 17 starting at 6 p.m.
Featured singers will be Jimmy Waters, The Clark Brothers and Ride Out the
Storm. Donations are also accepted at the Bank of McCreary County.

WCHS 1960 CLASS REUNION
The old Wayne County High School cafeteria building will be the site for
the 1960 class reunion on May 24 beginning at 2 p.m. There will be a catered

REVIVAL AT CALVARY ASSEMBLY OF GOD
Revival services at Calvary Assembly of God will begin Sunday morning,

TOTAL DELIVERANCE PROGRAM FOR DRUG/ALCOHOL ABUSE
World Wide Ministries Church of God will host a faith-based,
non-denominational total deliverance program for drug and alcohol abuse on

RED CROSS GOLF SCRAMBLE
The Lake Cumberland Area Red Cross benefiting Pulaski, Wayne, Clinton
and McCreary counties will have a golf scramble Wednesday, May 21 at Eagles
Nest County Club with shotgun start at 1 p.m. It is a four person scramble
format. Deadline to enter is May 16. There will be door prizes early, free
hot dogs and refreshments on the course and awards given.

JEREMY HICKS MOTORCYCLE RALLY MAY 31
The Jeremy Hicks Motorcycle Rally to benefit St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital will be Saturday, May 31. All proceeds will benefit the
children at St. Jude. The ride will originate at Action Motorsports in
Monticello and will end at Wolf River Resort at Dale Hollow Lake.
All riders will receive a t-shirt and lunch as well as a chance at many
great door prizes such as a shotgun, pontoon rental, motorcycle accessories,
etc. More information will be released in the next few weeks. Please ride
with us to help fight childhood cancer.

W.C. JUNIOR MISS PROGRAM
The Wayne County Junior Miss Scholarship Program will be held Friday,
May 30. This scholarship program is open to young ladies who are residents
of Monticello/Wayne County and will be in their senior year of high school

LCCAA CHARITY GOLF SCRAMBLE
Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency will host a charity golf
scramble on Thursday, May 15 at Somerset Country Club in Somerset, Ky. There
is a fee to participate. All proceeds will benefit the senior citizen

SLAVEN FAMILY REUNION
The Slaven, Slavin, Slavy, Slavey (any spelling) Family Reunion will be
Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m.-3p.m. in McCreary County, Ky. at Sand Hill
Camp shelter house, located on Highway 700 five miles east of U.S. Highway

WIC INCOME GUIDELINES
WIC (the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children)
is a national program that helps low-income families meet nutritional needs.
Who is financially eligible for WIC? Pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding
women, infants and children up to age five years may be eligible if their
family income is at or below the 185 percent of the federal poverty level.
For example: a family of one with a yearly income of $18,889; a family
of two with a yearly income of $25,327; or a family of four with a yearly
income of $38,203 may be eligible. Call your local health department to find
out if you or your children qualify for WIC. The WIC Program does not
discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, sex or
disability.

REVELATION STUDY

W.C. HORSEMAN'S ASSOCIATION
The Wayne County Horseman's Association would like to invite you to join
them on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room
of the Wayne County Library. Our focus is a shared interest in the horse.
Membership, however, does not require horse ownership.
There is diversity in our annual activities which include a spring and
fall horse show, monthly trail rides, picnics, Coggins testing, Christmas
Party and participation in community events like Old Fashion Days. As a
result of our fund raising efforts, we provide continuing education

SHARING THE LOVE OF CRAFTS
There are many opportunities to share your love of crafts in Wayne
County. You may want to be a part of the Homemakers Craft Club which meets
each second Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rescue Squad. Each month the club does
a different craft. You may want to share a craft that you know with others
in the community. The Extension Service can connect you with learners.
Perhaps you would like to share a craft at Heritage Skills Retreat at the
Kentucky Leadership Center in Jabez. For more information on these

LAKE CUMBERLAND FAMILY CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP
Quest Community Services, Inc. will provide a free family caregivers
support group on the third Friday of each month in McCreary County. In Wayne
County, the group meets on the third Thursday of each month in Monticello.
After a short presentation from our featured speaker, there will be bingo,

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Habitat for Humanity will meet the second Tuesday of each month at First
Baptist Church. The meetings will begin at 6 p.m. You may park and enter at
the back of the building. This is a Christian organization that works to
better the community.

GROWING HEALTHY KIDS COALITION
The Growing Healthy Kids Coalition would like for anyone concerned with
our children's health to come to Coalition meetings. Come and share your
ideas to help our children grow strong and healthy. The Coalition meets the
last Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Hospital. For

WAYNE COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER
Wayne County Adult Education Center has resumed classes on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. This will give an opportunity to individuals
who aren't able to attend day classes. The center is open weekly on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-7
p.m. Our Family Literacy program offers Parent and Children Together (PACT)
Time on Tuesdays 3 p.m.-5 p.m. with homework help for school age children
and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. There will be Baby (PACT) Parent and Child
Together Time.
Classes are always free. We offer many opportunities for you at the
Adult Education Center: earn a gold or silver employability certificate
through Work keys; earn a G.E.D.; learn to read; upgrade basic general
education skills; learn to type; learn basic computer skills; study for
drivers or CDL permit; enroll in family literacy; learn English as a second
language; or Kentucky Para-Educators Assessment (teacher's aide test.)

FAITH WEAVER FRIENDS AT ELK SPRING VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH
Children in grades 1-6 are invited to Elk Spring Valley Baptist Church

Elk Spring Valley Baptist Church Youth invites you to join them in

WAYNE COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCIL
The Wayne County Community Health Council (Local Champions Against Drug
Use) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in the Wayne County
Hospital cafeteria meeting room. Come a little earlier and enjoy lunch.
Health-related agencies and concerned citizens are both welcome. Be a part
of helping set community wide health goals and complete projects. To date
the council: has conducted and published two community health surveys and
held community health fairs targeting needs identified on health surveys;
serves as local Champions Groups; garnered an estimated $40,000 for Wayne
County to use towards drug education and prevention efforts; and continues
to develop and distribute educational material related to drug prevention
efforts, parenting tips, health habits, etc.

THE HOPE CENTER
The Hope Center is in need of the following items‹paper products,
cooking and baking food items, canned foods and meats, diapers, nice
bedding, dishes and towels for our burn out room. Any donations would be
greatly appreciated.

WAYNE COUNTY SADDLE CLUB
The Wayne County Saddle Club meeting time has been changed from the
third Monday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month. We invite all
horse lovers to join our club and meet with us.

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disease which attacks
the brain. It is the most common form of dementia and its causes are
unknown. More than four million Americans are diagnosed with the disease.
The Alzheimer's Association would like to announce a support group for
family members and caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This
monthly support group will meet at the Russell Springs Active Day Center in
Russell Springs, Ky. the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The setting is
a small discussion group with an emphasis on sharing feelings, thoughts and
experiences.

FREE GOSPEL JAM AT ROCK WORSHIP CENTER
The Rock Worship Center in Somerset, Ky. sponsors a free Gospel Jam,
cafe style, every Friday night at 7 p.m. EST. All are welcome, come and
bring your group, yourself, an instrument or just come and enjoy! We are
located in the Gateway Center, 650 N. Main St., corner of Highway 80 in

FREE FOREST STEWARDSHIP PLANS FOR PRIVATE WOODLAND OWNERS
The Kentucky Division of Forestry prepares Forest Stewardship Plans for
private woodland owners as a free service.
At your request, a forester will walk over your property with you while
explaining the condition of your woodland and listening to your objectives.
The forester will then make recommendations to help you set and achieve
management goals for your forestland. The recommendations will be summarized
in the Forest Stewardship Plan which will include information on timber
production, fish and wildlife management and management for recreation,
aesthetics and water quality.

SIT AND SEW
Contented Heart Quilt Guild will have a "Sit and Sew" day each first
Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Quilt Shoppe. Anyone is invited to come
for an hour or so and bring a project to work on.

Contented Heart Quilt Guild will have their regular monthly meeting the
third Monday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at the Quilt Shoppe. Visitors are

Through the Vision 2000 project, the phone line has been established to
help Wayne County and Monticello residents get help by finding out who to
