The Wayne County Sheriff's Department has learned about a new e-mail

scam that could target local residents and prey on their bank accounts. The

e-mail has a subject line that reads "Tax Refund Notice" and indicates that

it is from the IRS.

The e-mail states that the receiver is entitled to an IRS refund. The

individual must provide information regarding the Visa or Mastercard that is

linked to their checking or savings account in order to obtain the refund.

The Sheriff's Department stated that local residents who receive this

type of e-mail should contact authorities.
