The Monticello-Wayne County Telecommunications Board met in regular
session on Wednesday, March 19.
The only action taken during the meeting amended the Community Telecom
Services' benefit package to include Good Friday as a paid holiday.
This is consistent with other city and county benefit packages,
according to discussion by the board.
It brings the total number of paid holidays for CTS employees to seven.
The board heard a report from CTS General Manager Shane Stockton, who
noted that the customer base for cable service has increased in the past
month.
He said that employees have conducted audits in several locations and
had discovered approximately 50 illegal hookups.
He also noted that the internet customer base is continuing to grow.
He said the wireless infrastructure has been extended to provide service
farther out into the county.
Stockton also noted that CTS should have equipment on the towers at Zula
and Conley Bottom by early April, which should expand the customer base for
wireless internet service.
The board will meet in special session on Friday, March 28 at 1 p.m. to
review proposals for a possible wholesale-retail relationship for fiber
optic service to local customers.
The board has advertised a request for proposals and they will be opened
at the meeting, held at Monticello City Hall, on Friday.
