MUC plans feasibility study

Sylvia McGinnis, News Reporter
Wayne County Outlook

Monticello Bell Engineering will be conducting a feasibility study for the waste

water treatment plant at a cost of $15,000, following action taken by the

Monticello Utility Commission board last Thursday.

During last month's meeting, the board discussed the proposal submitted

by Bell Engineering to do a feasibility study at the waste water treatment

plant. However, they decided to table the matter until this month, giving

board members time to review the proposal before making a decision.

When the board met in regular session last Thursday, March 6, members

decided to vote in favor of Bell Engineering doing the feasibility study.

Board members also heard a report from System Manager Gene Jones last

Thursday. He reported that the new garbage truck had been delivered and was

in service. He also noted that the raw water intake at Mill Springs was

complete except for some cleanup work. Jones also informed the board that

the Consumer Confidence Report are at the printers and are expected to be

mailed to customers in April.

In addition, Jones informed the board that a representative from the

fire department had informed him that firefighters had used approximately

175,000 gallons of water to fight a recent fire at American Woodmark. When

asked what rate the MUC charged for water used to fight fires, Jones noted

that they do not charge for this service.

Jones pointed out that the fuel bill for February was expensive and he

reminded employees who have the privilege of driving a company vehicle to

not drive it any more than necessary. Board member Alvin Sexton asked Jones

to draft a reminder letter and send it to employees.

In other news, board members adopted a resolution of the MUC (grantee)

accepting and approving the grant agreement regarding the downtown project.

In other action, the board:

€ voted to transfer a 1996 Chevy pickup to the city.

€ entered into an executive session to discuss personnel.

€ heard departmental reports for the month of February from Glen Ramsey,

who gave a report on the water plant, and James Shoemaker, who Distribution

Line report. Rick Massengale, controller, gave a financial report for

February.

€ was informed that MUC employee Jason McGinnis has planned a safety

class to be held next month.
