The Wayne County Airport has received $350,000 to install new runway
lights at the facility, according to a recent announcement by
Represen-tative Harold Rogers.
The money has been awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The new lighting system will replace a 40-year-old system that was
beyond repair, increasing traffic capacity and safety.
"Investing in regional airports makes available additional modes of
travel," stated Rogers. "Economic development depends on a strong, reliable
transportation infrastructure."
Wayne County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin was very pleased to learn about
the funding for the airport.
"This will help us replace something that is really old and really
outdated," stated Rankin. "We appreciate the efforts of the Airport Board
and Congressman Rogers on this project. The airport is a big key to the
long-term economic development of this community...A lot of people come in
and out of here through the airport and that is their first impression of
Wayne County. Hopefully, this will help us give a better impression of Wayne
County."
As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rogers works
to provide funding for important initiatives in the fifth Congressional
district.
