The Monticello Utility Commission will soon have regulations and
specifications for new water systems, following action taken by the board
during their regular monthly meeting last Thursday, June 5.
According to Gene Jones, manager for the MUC, the regulations and
specifications detail everything developers would need to do when putting in
new water systems.
He added that the MUC would have the initial cost of compiling the
regulations and specifications but would be able to recover some of that
money by selling the sets to developers. He noted that these regulations and
specifications will actually cut down on MUC costs and all developers would
be treated equally.
Bell Engineering will be responsible for compiling the regulations and
specifications. Following discussion of the matter the board approved the
regulations and specifications.
In other news, the board heard an update on the Bronston water rate
increase. Jonathan Edwards, MUC attorney, noted that after the board
approved the water rate increase last month he had received verbal
confirmation from Bronston.
Edwards added that he has prepared all the necessary paperwork and and
sent it to the Public Service Commission. He noted that June 26 is the
projected start date for the new rates.
In other action, the board:
€ approved hiring a garbage truck employee. Jones noted that he plans to
hire an individual for this position out of applications he already has on
file.
€ heard departmental reports for the month of May from: Glen Ramsey, who
gave a water plant report; Donnie Lester, who reported on the waste water
plant; Rick Massengale, who gave the financial report; and Gene Jones
reported on the distribution line.
