Monticello Independent receives counseling grant

— A counseling grant recently awarded to Monticello Independent made it
possible for the board of education to approve positions for a social worker
and counselor during their regular monthly meeting Monday evening, July 14.
According to Superin-tendent Donnie Robison, these positions are
included in the counseling grant and will be completely paid for by grant
funds.
Robison noted that Betty Hyden will serve as the project director for
the new counseling grant and Elizabeth Gregory will assume Hyden's duties as
middle and high school counselor. Through the new grant, Mary Glass and
Cindy Rose were hired as counselors and Mattie Wells was hired as a social
worker. Marsha Bertram has been hired as a middle school teacher and will
replace Elizabeth Gregory.
Board members voted to accept the counseling grant and create the
positions established and paid for by the grant.

In other news, the board:
€ approved collecting indirect cost from the lunch fund and federal
programs for the 2008-09 school year.
€ approved updated special education procedures.
€ approved special education contract services for the 2008-09 school
year.
€ voted to request continuing emergency special education certification
for the 2008-09 school year for Shawn Morrow and Shannon Jones.
€ set the substitute salary schedule for the 2008-09 school year to
reflect a one percent increase.
€ approved Title IX Assurances for the 2008-09 school year.
€ heard a personnel report.
€ heard the Superintendent's Report. Superintendent Robison gave board
members an update on the projects that have been taking place over the
summer.
€ voted to accept the alcohol abuse prevention grant and create the
position established and paid for by that grant.
