Construction means limited access at historic Mill Springs Mill

Monticello — Anyone planning a visit to historic Mill Springs in the near future

needs to be aware of some ongoing construction work, which could limit

access to certain areas of the park.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, has announced that

sections of the mill will be closed periodically to the public due to

restoration work.

The mill will remain open for weekend and holiday visitation.

The contracted restoration work, by Tarter Contracting of Somerset, is

expected to be completed by mid to late October.



MUC honored by Kentucky Rural Water Association

The Monticello Utility Commission was among water and wastewater

utilities that was recognized and honored recently by the Kentucky Rural

Water Association.

Representatives of Kentucky's public drinking water and wastewater

utilities gathered for the Kentucky Rural Water Association's (KRWA) 30th

Annual Conference and Exhibition August 24-26 in Lexington, Ky. Over 700

utility professionals gathered at the Hyatt Regency and Lexington Convention

Center to join the Association in "Celebrating Thirty Years" of service to

Kentucky's utilities.

On Tuesday, August 25, Monticello Utility Commis-sion was among 10 water

and wastewater utilities recognized and honored at the Member Appreciation

Breakfast for their outstanding service during the past year. Each year, 10

finalists, that have shown exceptional efforts in meeting the needs of their

communities, enhancing their operations, and complying with regulatory

requirements, are recognized.

"This is a team effort," commented Gene Jones, System Manager for the

Monticello Utility Commis-sion. He added that everybody, from the employees

to the commissioners, played a role in the utility commission's success.

The Wooden Bucket Award is presented to a water and/or wastewater

utility that has made substantial and lasting improvements in providing high

levels of customer service and high quality drinking water and wastewater

services in its community. Other finalists included Edmonson County Water

District, Grayson Utilities Commission, Judy Water Association, Lyon County

Water District, City of New Haven, North Mercer Water District, Paintsville

City Utilities, Southeastern Water Association, and Warren County Water

District. The winner of the 2009 Wooden Bucket Award was Warren County

Water District.

The Kentucky Rural Water Association is a state-wide, non-profit

association that provides training, on-site technical assistance, advocacy,

and other services to all utilities, including over 375 member public

drinking water and wastewater utilities, in Kentucky. With offices in

Bowling Green and Frankfort, KRWA has been fulfilling its mission of helping

water and wastewater utilities help themselves since 1979.
