"Old Fashion Christmas" Christmas Village, Children's Village set for Saturday

Monticello The Wayne County Extension Homemakers are celebrating their 26th Christmas Village on Saturday, November 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. E.T. at the Monticello National Guard Armory on North Main Street.

A beautifully decorated Christmas tree, gifts, crafts, food of all kinds, a pinto bean luncheon, Children's Village, Santa, and more are featured at the festive event. Eight Extension Homemaker Clubs have all of the craft and food items you will ever need for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

A portion of the proceeds from club sales is donated to various charitable causes chosen by Extension Homemaker Clubs. An optional admission charge of a canned food item or monetary donation is accepted at the Armory door. Canned foods will be collected into A Mountain of Hope for the local food pantry, the Hope Center. Children are admitted free.

A 10-foot decorated tree will be featured in the center of the Armory.

Hundreds of Christmas ornaments will adorn the tree decorated to celebrate an "Old Fashion Christmas". Two great door prizes will be given away.

Everyone is encouraged to register for the door prizes.

You will enjoy the traditional pinto bean lunch from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

ET.  Throughout the day all types of food will be featured from ham and biscuits, chili, hot dogs, fried apple pies, candies, desserts and more.

A special highlight of Christmas Village is Children's Village. Children will be treated to a shopper's delight at the Children's Village, which is held in conjunction with Christmas Village.

Santa will arrive at 10 a.m. as Children's Village opens, and he will have treats for all children. Also, be sure to let your children get a balloon.

Polaroid photos with Santa will be made at the 10-foot Christmas tree area. Photos can be purchased or bring your own camera.

Children ages 5-12 may shop for handmade gifts for relatives and friends at the Children's Village from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The shopping area is in the small meeting room at the front of the Armory. No adults are allowed.

All gifts are $2. Children may purchase five gifts or spend no more than $10. It would be good for children to have their shopping list written on an envelope. Children can also register for door prizes at the Children's Village area.

The Christmas Village and Children's Village on Saturday, November 21 have something to offer everyone. Come visit with Wayne County Extension Homemakers as they usher in the holiday season.
