Wayne's unemployment rate drops in November

Monticello Wayne County's unemployment rate dropped by half a percent from October to November, according to the latest figures released by the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.

The local jobless rate was 12.9 percent in November, down from 13.4 percent in October. In November 2008, Wayne County's unemployment rate was

9.2 percent.

The unemployment rate for the Lake Cumberland area decreased from 11.5 percent in October to 10.8 percent in November.

Wayne County's rate was the highest in the 10-county area in November.

The lowest rate was 9.3 percent, which was recorded in Clinton County.

Other area rates included: Adair County, 10.6 percent; Casey County, 9.6 percent; Cumberland County, 12.5 percent; Green County, 11.7 percent; McCreary County, 12.8 percent; Pulaski County, 10 percent; Russell County,

12 percent; and Taylor County, 10.1 percent.



Fayette County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the state at 7.1 percent. It was followed by Calloway County, 7.5 percent; Woodford County,

7.6 percent; and Scott County, 8 percent.

Magoffin County recorded the state's highest unemployment rate at 21.1 percent. It was followed by: Metcalfe County, 18 percent; Jackson County,

16.9 percent; Powell County, 16.6 percent; and Trigg County, 15.9 percent.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working.

Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work.

They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
