Monticello School Board appoints planning committee

2-6-13 —   Members of the Monticello Independent Board of Education took another step in preparing for its upcoming hearing before the Kentucky Board of Education during a special called meeting last Wednesday, January 30.

After calling the meeting to order and approving the agenda, board members immediately went into an executive session and met in closed session for almost 2 hours and 20 minutes to discuss issues dealing with property, legal matters and the appointment or dismissal of personnel.

In open session, board members appointed eight individuals to the planning committee to prepare for the presentation before the state board on Wednesday, February 20.

Those individuals appointed include representatives of Monticello faculty and staff, student body and alumni.

Individuals appointed to the Monticello Independent School District Planning Committee are: Elizabeth Miller, Greg Latham, Teresa Rankin, Bill Boyd, Matthew Bertram, Connie Parnell, Kevin Rose and Paul Stringer.

Board attorney Winter Huff also suggested that the board consider requesting input from Monticello Mayor Jeffrey Edwards, Wayne County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin and State Senator Sara Beth Gregory to see what ideas and resources they may have that would be of assistance.

She suggested that the board invite them to participate in the planning process.

After appointing the planning committee, the board voted to table the matter of appointing a presentation committee until the next meeting.

The local board will hold a special called meeting on Wednesday, February 13.

The Monticello Independent School District Planning Commit-tee was meeting as this edition was going to press on Monday evening.

Please see next week's edition of The Wayne County Outlook for information on that meeting.

In other action, the board asked Huff to look into the steps necessary to sell the soccer field property located on Hwy. 90 through auction.
