Kids Fishing Derby is June 7

6-4-2014 —     The 10th Annual Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Fishing Derby is set for Saturday, June 7 at Cave Lake Event Park on the Nick Cooley farm, which is located just off KY 90. The event is free and open to kids ages one through 15.

    Adults may fish with a $5 entry fee.

    The annual fishing derby has become a popular event. It is organized by Wayne County's Defensive Action Against Drugs (D.A.A.D.), the Wayne County Bass Club and Operation UNITE.

    Registration begins at 8 a.m., and fishing will start at 9 a.m. Fishing times are: 9-10 a.m., ages one through five; 10:30-11:30, ages six through 10; 12 noon-1 p.m., ages 11-15; and 1:30-2:30 p.m., ages 16 and over.

    Each age group must register at least 30 minutes before fishing time.

    Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in each children's age group, as well as for the big fish. There will also be a casting contest with a first place trophy awarded in each children's age group.

    Adults 16 and older may fish the non-boat tournament with a $5 entry fee. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place and for the big fish in this category.

    Bring your own fishing tackle and bait.
