Season begins for 2009-2010 Mat Cards

Monticello — The 2009-2010 Mat Cardinals open the season on Tuesday, November 24 at North Oldham High School. The team will be in dual action against North Oldham, St. Xavier, and Jeffersonville, Indiana. Starting time will be at 7 p.m. at North Oldham High School.



The team will return nine starters from a year ago. They are Zach Bybee, Luke Troxell, Aaron Dodd, Zach Troxell, Matthew Sullivan, Jordon Jones, Billy Floyd, Cody Mink and Tyler Pace.

Wayne County is currently ranked 11th in the state according to the November 9 rankings by Kentucky Wrestling.com. The Mat Cardinals return three state players from last year in Luke Troxell, Cody Mink and Tyler Pace. Wrestlers who should add depth to the team include Mike Dodd, Andy Dodd, Tyler Simpson, Colby Hutchison, Casey Mink, Cecil Nevels, Devin Morrow, Austin Dobbs, Tyler Poore and Rodney Rednour.

The Region Eight tournament this year will be held at Wayne County on Saturday, February 13. The Region should shape up to be very strong this year with three teams Wayne County (11), Sheldon Clark (9) and Johnson Central (5), all ranked in the state.

Coach Upchurch commented this year's team has had a great work ethic, but we have been hurt by injuries early. If we continue to work and get better we will be a factor at region and state this year.
