48th District Tournament Championship: 5-20-14 @ Southwestern Southwestern 6 Wayne County 2

6-4-2014 —     The Cardinals split a pair of regular season games with the Warriors but came in as the #2 seed as the Warriors won the regular season tie-breaker. Tanner Bell got the scoring started as he led of the game with a solo home run to deep right field. Wayne County would only be able to add one more run the rest of the way. Wayne County freshman

Dalton Garner banged a two out double off the fence in the bottom of the second inning and was driven in by a single from senior Colton Hatfield. However, that was the last time a Cardinal runner crossed the plate, and it would not be enough for Wayne County. Junior Trajan Smith got the start on the mound and did a good job limiting the Warriors to 3 runs through 3 and 1/3 innings of work. "Trajan has done an outstanding job for us all year, and tonight was no different," stated Coach Blevins. "Nick Gillespie came in and did not

have great command but still battled and kept us in it, but we just couldn't get anything going offensively. Southwestern has one of the best teams in our region, and we knew we were going to have to put up some runs to get the win.  Unfortunately we just did not have enough offense to get the job done tonight.  It was 3-2 game into the 5th inning, and we had our chances, just not able to string enough hits

together to put some pressure on them."  Wayne County will move on to face Somerset in the first round of the 12th Region Baseball Tournament.
