It's good news for the Monticello-Wayne County Park Board, which has

received a $75,000 grant to proceed with the construction of new bathrooms

for Local Development Community Fund, was made last week.

"The addition of new restroom facilities has been one of the top

priorities of the Monticello-Wayne County Park for some time," said Park

Board Chairman Jane Dalton. "These monies, made available by the Governor,

will enable us to build facilities to better handle the large number of

people that use and enjoy the park. I hope this is just the first of many

improvements to the park that you will see in the future. We, as a board,

are very appreciative of Governor Fletcher and the many others that worked

so diligently to secure this funding."

the playground area at the park, offering easier restroom access to

children. Park visitors using the park's multi-purpose show ring, baseball

and softball fields and numerous picnic shelters will also benefit from the

The restrooms currently used at the park have been there for more than

30 years.

"Community parks en-hance the living environment for Kentuckians

statewide," said Governor Fletcher. "The Monticello-Wayne County Park is an

example of such enhancement, but people, especially our children, must have

access to adequate park facilities."

Representative Ken Upchurch noted that this is a project that will

benefit citizens for years to come.

"I am pleased that Governor Fletcher has awarded these funds to Wayne

County," stated Upchurch.
