STEVEN L. HAMMOND
July 31, 1951-Nov. 8, 2008
Steven L. Hammond, age 57, of Kokomo, Ind., passed away Saturday,
November 8, 2008 at his home.
He was born July 31, 1951 in Fort Knox, Ky., the son of Cecil and
Josephine (Nicholas) Hammond.
On October 23, 1993 in Kokomo he married Lynnette Myers, who survives.
Steve was a 1970 graduate of Tri High School in Henry County, Ind.
During high school he played in a couple of garage bands. Steve attended
I.U. East Richmond before joining the U.S. Army; serving in the Vietnam War.
He was retired from Chrysler Corp. Transmission Plant after 28 1/2 years of
service.
His memberships included the Bon Air Church of the Nazarene, where he
received his local pastor's license in 2004, U.A.W Local #685, and the
Howard County Stroke Group, where he was a volunteer for new stroke
survivors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, music and photography.
His dream was to retire to Burkesville, Ky. Steve had been active in mission
work, helping build a church in Antigua.
He is survived by one son-Jimmy (Angie) Hammond of Avon, Ind.; one
brother-Jack (Peggy) Hammond of Indianapolis, Ind.; one nephew-Johnny
(Jenny) Hammond of Columbus, Ohio; two great nieces-Kaylyn and Emma Hammond;
father-in-law and mother-in-law-Jerry and Vicky Myers of Kokomo, Ind.;
sister-in-law-Melissa (Trent) Marner of Kokomo, Ind.; one niece-Emily
Marner; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Bon Air
Church of Nazarene with Pastor Dennis Riggs officiating. Burial followed in
the Crown Point Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and
the Kokomo V.F.W Military Rites Team.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Air Church
of the Nazarene, Sound System Fund, 2419 N. Locke St., Kokomo, Ind.
Shirley and Stout Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
