1-30-13 —     Feb. 19, 1931‹Jan. 20, 2013

    Mr. Haskel Lewis Brake, son of the late Porter Brake, Sr. and Elsie Cole Brake was born on February 19, 1931 and he departed this life on Sunday January 20, 2013 at the V.A. Hospital in Lexington, Ky. having attained the age of 81 years.

    He was united in marriage to Mrs. Emma Guffey Brake on July 1, 1955 who survives.

    Other survivors include three sons‹Gerald (Betsy) Brake, of Burnside, Ky.

Billy (Vicki) Brake, of Eubank, Ky. and Donnie Brake, of Burnside, Ky.: one brother‹Bobby Brake (Anita), of Monticello, Ky.; and six grandchildren‹ Matthew Brake, Jeremiah Brake, Justin (Tosha) Brake, Jason Brake, Kaylee Brake and Kaydence Hatfield.

    He was also preceded in death by a daughter‹Rebecca Ann Brake; five brothers‹Elza, Ellis, Howard, Harold and Junior Brake; and seven sisters‹Zelma Brake, Effie Brake, Alice Abbott, Vela Upchurch, Dorothy Neal, Ruth Morris and Margie New.

    He was a member of the Grave Hill Baptist Church, a Sergeant First Class veteran of the United States Army, a member of the 623rd FABN 'C'

Battery based in Monticello that served in the Korean War in 1951-52.

Lifetime member of the Monticello DAV. 40 year member of the Burnside Masonic Lodge # 634 F & A M, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason (Valley of Lexington), charter member of Lake Cumberland Scottish Rite Club in Burnside, charter member of Point Isabel Eastern Star Chapter # 582.

He was the former Fire Chief of Burnside Fire Dept. and one of the founders and organizers of the Tateville Volunteer Fire Dept., where he served as the first chief and held that position for many years. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel, Pulaski County Colonel, Somerset Colonel and a Pulaski County 'Good Ole Boy'.

    He was a kind person who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

    Funeral services were held on Friday Jan. 25, 2013 at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Eugene Dick officiating. Burial was in the Burnside Cemetery.

    Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post # 38. Masonic services were conducted by Burnside Masonic Lodge # 634.

    In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Haskel Brake

Memorial Fund.
