Spring clean up effort

Wayne County residents who would like to have white goods picked up during the annual spring clean up effort can begin by calling those requests in on March 1, according to Solid Waste Coordinator Andrew Parmley. He said all requests to be included in the clean up effort should be made by March 15. That is when crews will begin to collect the items.

Parmley said the clean up will conclude by April 24. He also noted that the pick up of items will begin in District One and continue through each district. He said residents will be notified a few days in advance when clean up begins in their district. This will give them time to get the items out by the road for pick up, but it will also keep people from placing items out two or three weeks before they are picked up.

Anyone who would like more information about the spring clean up should call Parmley at 348-8522, the County Judge’s Office at 348-4241, Monticello City Hall at 348-5719, or the County Extension Office at 348-8453.

Fiscal Court audit released

State Auditor Crit Luallen has released the audit of the financial statements of the Wayne County Fiscal Court for the fiscal year which ended June 30, 2002.

The report found that the county’s financial statements, in all material respects, fairly represented the county’s assets, liabilities, and equity arising from cash transactions and revenues received and expenditures paid in conformity with the modified cash basis of accounting.

As part of the audit process, the auditor must comment on non-compliance with laws, regulations, contracts and grants. The auditor must also comment on material weaknesses involving the internal control over financial operations and reporting. The audit contains the following comment: "The Wayne County Airport Board should maintain proper records."

County Judge-Executive Bruce Ramsey responded that there has been a transition of treasurers and they have assured that the problem will be taken care of.

State law requires annual audits of county fiscal courts. The report, in its entirety, can be accessed at www.kyauditor.net.
