Time changes this Sunday

Local residents are reminded to set their clocks back one hour this Saturday night before going to bed, as Daylight Savings Time ends at midnight.

Leaf pick up is scheduled

The City of Monticello will pick up leaves inside the city limits October 27-31 and again November 17-21. Leaves must be bagged and placed near the street. No tree limbs or debris will be picked up. Call Monticello City Hall at (606) 348-0167.

Trick-or-Treat night set

A Safe Trick-or-Treat night will be held October 31 at The ASPIRE Center, from 5-8 p.m.

The annual event has become a popular trick-or-treat stop for local children. The Safe Trick-or-Treat Night is hosted by the Wayne County Service Unit of the Salvation Army in conjunction with the Wayne County Empowerment Zone.

Businesses and organizations will set up tables inside The ASPIRE Center, where kids can stop by for a treat. Anyone who would like to participate should call (606) 348-4161 or (606) 348-4241 to sign up.

Officials to check voting machines on Thursday

Election officials will be checking the voting machines on Thursday, October 30 at 9 a.m. in the basement of City Hall. Election training school for precinct workers has been set for October 30 at 6 p.m. in the Circuit Courtroom.

There is one precinct change for the November election. Voters in the Powersburg precinct will cast ballots at the Windy Country Mart on Highway 1009 (Windy Road). This affects voters who previously voted at the former Powersburg School.

The absentee voting machine is currently open in the Wayne County Court Clerk’s office and will remain open through Monday, November 3. Anyone who will not be in town for Election Day on November 4 may vote on the absentee machine during regular business hours.

Sick or disabled voters who cannot go to the polls to vote may vote by traditional paper absentee ballot and can apply for the ballot now. Applications must be returned by mail to the County Court Clerk’s Office by October 28.

Anyone with election related questions should contact the County Court Clerk’s Office at (606) 348-6661.

Veterans Day parade set

The Veterans Day Parade is set for Tuesday, November 11 in downtown Monticello. Veterans will line up beginning at 9 a.m. at the Monticello Police Station.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and will proceed along Main Street to the Doughboy, where a special ceremony will be held.
