Wayne County Detention staff receives training Staff at the Wayne County Detention Center recently received training on the use of LiveScan 2000, which is used to electronically capture criminal history information and fingerprints of inmates. The information is forwarded electronically to the Kentucky State Police in Frankfort. According to Wayne County Jailer Ray Upchurch, the training was conducted by the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) Section of Kentucky State Police. Upchurch said this technology allows jail staff to positively identify individuals arrested, and adds to the Commonwealth’s data base of approximately six million fingerprints. In turn, the AFIS data base is used to solve crimes. "Electronic fingerprints taken at the Wayne County Detention Center are searched against latent prints recovered from the scenes of crimes," said Sgt. Phil Crumpton, with the AFIS Section of Kentucky State Police. "The Wayne County Detention Center has taken a proactive step in reducing crime in their community by collecting this valuable evidence for us, evidence that can and will be used in past and future crimes. It benefits all citizens of Wayne County."
