Special Olympics Torch Run The Monticello Police Department will conduct its Second Annual Kentucky Special Olympics Torch Run on May 17 at noon. The run will begin on KY 90 north of the city limits and will end on KY 90 south of town. "This is not a race," said Officer Sheridan Wright, who has organized the Torch Run for the local department. "It’s our community and law enforcement supporting a great cause." T-shirts for the run will be on sale at Wal-Mart again this year. Officers will set up a booth outside the store on May 3 and May 10, and t-shirts may be purchased from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. both days. T-shirts are also available at the police station. All proceeds go directly to the Kentucky Special Olympics. Last year, the Monticello Police Department raised $2,600 and received the "New Hero" award, raising more money than any department this size in the state. For more information about the Torch Run, call the Monticello Police Department at (606) 348-9313.

KY 90 is being named in honor and memory of Trooper Hutchinson who was killed in the line of duty June 4, 1975 in McCreary County. This roadway is being named as a result of Senate Bill 18, passed by the 2002 Kentucky General Assembly. It was signed into law March 20, 2002 by Governor Paul E. Patton. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the Wayne-Pulaski County line on KY 90.
Counterfeit checks passed Counterfeit commercial checks are being passed in this area, according to Kentucky State Police at London. KSP is advising anyone who receives a cashiers check for payment of an item to first verify the check before accepting it.
