Tourism funding awarded to Cumberlands Corridor

More than $50,000 in tourism funding has been awarded to the Cumberlands Corridor, which includes Wayne, Pulaski, Russell, McCreary and Clinton counties. Several different initiatives are included in the funding packages.

Approximately $24,000 will be used to produce a corridor-wide educational video featuring historical sites, museums, art and craft venues, parks, and other tourism related attractions. A brochure will be created to promote agritourism in the Heritage Landmarks and the Cumberlands Corridor, at a cost of $12,450.

Ten thousand dollars was awarded for the creation of an organized kit of information about the Corridor that will be distributed to journalists, motor coach operators and others. A corridor logo will be created for use in print, on video, in media kits and for other projects. That project received $5,000 in funding.

The money was awarded through the Southern and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association’s (SEKTDA) Community Development Fund Program. The Community Development Fund Program is part of the "Company’s Coming" Initiative that aims to enhance tourism, create new jobs, and bolster local economies all across the 42-county area in southern and eastern Kentucky.

Man arrested and juvenile charged in connection with stolen truck

One person has been arrested and a juvenile has been detained in connection with a truck stolen from a construction site on June 6, according to the Monticello Police Department.

Kenny A. Genoe, 18, of Monticello, was arrested Saturday, June 14. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $300. Genoe was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

A 13-year-old male juvenile was detained and charged with theft by unlawful taking over $300, three counts of criminal mischief first degree, and one count of criminal mischief second degree. The juvenile was lodged in the detention facility in Adair County.

The charges stem from the theft of a 1975 Chevrolet flat bed truck, taken from the Judicial Center construction site on Columbia Avenue. The truck crashed through a fence at the site, struck a parked vehicle on Fair Street and another parked vehicle on Elm Street.

The stolen truck became disabled a few minute later, after hitting a tree. The suspects fled on foot before police arrived.
