Two arrested, charged with possession of burglary tools

Two men were arrested early Wednesday morning, after police received a complaint of a prowler and a possible theft at Kinnett Apartments.

Clint Brummett, 22, and Johnny Sweet, 27, were arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools. A large quantity of tools and an inert pipe bomb were found in suspects’ possession, according to the Monticello Police Department.

According to the report, police received the call at approximately 3:32 a.m. The investigation is continuing.

Letter from Home project

The City of Monticello, the Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and The Wayne County Outlook have joined together to make sure soldiers who are fighting terrorism overseas will get a "letter from home." And the first step in this effort is gathering information about local soldiers who are involved in the battle against terrorism.

Outlook readers can help with this effort. Call in the names and addresses of any service people who are currently fighting terrorism in another country.

Mayor Kenneth Catron noted this does not have to be just those soldiers fighting in Afghanistan, but also those fighting terrorism in other countries like Pakistan or the Phillipines.

As part of the effort, The Outlook will publish monthly a list of the names and addresses of each of the soldiers included in the effort. This will allow local residents to also write these service people and show their support.

Each month these service men and women will receive a newsletter telling them about things happening at home.

"The newsletter would include some positive things about what is going on in Monticello...We want them to feel good when they get that letter," said Mayor Kenneth Catron.

The city will place a display honoring "Heroes Fighting Terrorism for Our Nation" in Monticello City Hall. The display will include a photo and information about each local service person involved in the battle against terrorism.

Anyone who would like to include a family member who is in the service should contact Monticello City Hall at (606) 348-5719, the Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce at (606) 348-3064, or The Wayne County Outlook at (606) 348-3338.
