Hammond charged with promoting contraband

A Monticello woman has been arrested in connection with contraband taken into the Wayne County Detention Center. According to Wayne County Jailer Ray Upchurch, Rosie Hammond, 43, of Rt. 2, Monticello, was charged with promoting contraband first degree and possession of a controlled substance third degree.

The arrest was the result of a discovery by deputy jailers of a controlled substance hidden in an article of clothing that was brought into the detention center by Hammond. She apparently brought the article of clothing to an inmate, according to Upchurch.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Parrish Baker was called to the detention center at 5:36 p.m. on July 2 and made the arrest. Hammond was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Upchurch noted that anyone who is caught trying to bring contraband into the detention center will be prosecuted.
