Trojans drop 43-40 loss to McCreary By MELODIE PHELPS News Editor
Monticello hosted McCreary Central Friday night in a district contest, and the Trojans dropped a 43-40 loss. Coach Shane Blevins noted the game was probably one of the best his team has played so far this season, except the shots still weren't falling for the Trojans. “We were only 14 of 51 from the field,” noted Blevins. “And with the exception of two or three shots, they were all good looks...We just need some shots to start falling for us.” It wasn't a pretty game to watch, as both teams struggled to find the mark. Central took the lead, 12-8, at the end of the first quarter, but Monticello had made up some ground to tie it at 19 by halftime. The Raiders went up by three, 43-40, at end of the third quarter. A couple of shots near the end of the contest gave McCreary Central a four-point advantage. Monticello hit one of two free throws to cut the lead to three, and had a desperation shot at the buzzer to try to tie the game. Blevins was pleased with the way his team's execution and the effort they brought to the floor against the Raiders. Monticello was led by Elliott Tucker who scored 12 points. Terry Brown and Blake Dobbs added nine points each for the Trojans. The loss drops Monticello to 0-3 in district action and 2-4 overall. Monticello was scheduled to play at Casey County on Tuesday night, and then will begin action in the Holly Hoops Classic at Greenwood High School in Bowling Green on Friday. Monticello will face Crittenden County in the opening round. The Trojans will play again Saturday and Sunday in teh tourney.
