An attempt to smuggle marijuana and cigarettes into the Wayne County

Detention Center on Saturday, April 12 was unsuccessful, according to Jailer

Ray Upchurch. Upchurch said deputy jailers received an anonymous phone call

informing them that the items had been planted in the public restroom in the

lobby.

After a search, deputy jailers discovered the marijuana and cigarettes.

The investigation is continuing into who left the contraband, according to

Upchurch.

He stated that anyone caught planting contraband on jail property will

be charged with promoting contraband first degree.
