Q. Why does it sometimes take a two weeks or longer for an article or photo to be published?
A. The amount of information contained in each edition of The Outlook is determined by the amount of advertising in that issue. The decision on which story or picture to run first is generally made based upon several criteria.

|
Q. Has the event already happened or is it an upcoming event?
A. Publicity of an event before it happens takes priority.
|
|
Q. How can I get publicity for my event or organization?
A. The best way to guarantee the maximum coverage of an upcoming event or organization is to provide at least a two-week notice. To make sure we publish the information correctly, we ask that you provide us the information in writing by e-mailing it to news@www.wcoutlook.com, faxing it to (606) 348-8848, or bringing it by our office at 109 East Columbia Ave. You should provide as much detail as possible—who, what, when, where, why, and contact name and telephone number. The person providing us the information should also include a daytime telephone number in case we have questions. You do not have to be a professional writer; we will put your information into the proper format.

Q. Can anyone submit an article or photograph, and is there a charge?
A. We encourage everyone to submit information to us about the achievements and activities within Wayne County and surrounding areas. There is no charge for articles or photographs. While we attempt to provide staff coverage for community activities, there are times when conflicts arise and we cannot attend your event. If you provide us information about your activity we will publish an article. Likewise, we can accept any size photograph, either black or white or color. The only format we have difficulty in printing are Polaroid pictures because their quality tends to be poor. We are especially interested in articles and photographs concerning new employees, promotions, club activities, civic organization programs, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and engagements, honors and awards.

Q. What is the difference between an advertisement and a news article?
A. An advertisement is a paid announcement that runs on the week or weeks you specify. News articles and public service announcements are free and provide information concerning events and activities in the community. We do not guarantee a date of publication for a news article.
|
|
Q. How do you come up with topics to write about?
A. While a lot of our staff-generated articles are the result of meetings or actions taken in our legal system, a majority of the stories are the result of someone calling to tell us about an interesting person, place or upcoming event. The final decision on what to cover is made by the News Editor, based upon what stories are likely to have the most reader interest.
