— A man, originally from Monticello, has apparently confessed to an
unsolved Bowling Green murder that occurred in September 1998. Officials
with the Barren County Sheriff's Department conducted an interview last week
with David M. Bell, 35, who is currently serving time in the Indiana State
Prison on another unrelated murder charge.
According to an article published in the Glasgow Daily Times, Bell
claimed responsibility in the death of a woman whose remains were found in
2000 near Park City. Nancy Daddysman's body was located by two young boys on
September 21, 2000, off Iron Mountain Road near Park City. Her remains were
identified through dental records.
The article noted that Daddysman, who lived in Bowling Green, was
supposed to meet friends at a Waffle House on September 4, 1998, where she
was going to get a ride to Indianapolis.
Bell told Barren County officials that he picked up Daddysman in Bowling
Green while she was trying to hitchhike to Indiana. In the article, Barren
County Sheriff Chris Eaton said that Bell admitted to hitting Daddysman in
the head with a pipe.
Bell then told officials that he drove the woman to Iron Mountain Road
and she began to regain consciousness. He said it was there that he stabbed
and killed her. He said he left her body in an abandoned tarp.
"He's a pretty deranged man," Eaton told the Glasgow Daily Times. "He
told us he used to drive around and have fantasies about picking up a woman,
killing and raping her and then eating the remains."
Eaton said that Bell admitted to the use of methamphetamines and cocaine
at the time he said he killed Daddysman. Officials said that Bell was living
in Monticello as the time of her death, but said he was familiar with the
area because he had driven a cab there.
Monticello Police Chief Ralph Miniard confirmed that local officials had
previously received some information regarding Bell's possible involvement
with the crime. He said that information was forwarded to Kentucky State
Police for further investigation.
Eaton said that Bell has also provided investigators with information
about a woman's death in Arkansas. He was able to lead law enforcement there
to a truck containing a pair of the dead woman's underwear, according to
Eaton.
"The man has been taking responsibility for a lot of things," Eaton told
the Glasgow Daily Times.
Officials said Daddysman's remains had apparently been in the location
where they were found since her disappearance. The boys who found the body
were cave diving when they found the remains.
Police said Daddysman's body was found in a rocky, wooded area and the
closest building is a Baptist church. Eaton had previously stated that the
person who led the body in that location must have been familiar with the
area.
Bell is currently serving a 63 year sentence for murder. He was
sentenced in January 2006 in connection with the murder of an Anderson,
Indiana woman in 2005. According to information filed in an appeal in the
Indiana case, the victim was Claire Ellis, who officials said Bell picked up
in his truck. Police said that Bell gave a detailed confession to the
murder, saying he struck Ellis in the head and neck with a 14-inch
adjustable wrench and buried her in the back yard of the home he was living
in at the time.
Court documents that the next day, Bell took his family to Arkansas.
Barren County officials said that since Bell is serving the lengthy
Indiana prison term and may face charges in Arkansas and Kentucky, this may
be a case where he stays where he is and all the charges run concurrently.
According to the Indiana Department of Corrections, Bell was sentenced
to a 63 year prison term on January 11, 2006. The earliest he could be
released on parole on those charges is April 13, 2037.
