City Council adds $50,000 to blacktop budget Melodie Phelps, News Editor
Wayne County Outlook
Monticello — Monticello City Council agreed to add another $50,000 to their 2009
blacktop budget, in order to resurface several streets that are in need of
repair.
The council met in special session on Tuesday, July 28, and agreed to
transfer $50,000 from a certificate of deposit for blacktopping.
Mayor Kenneth Catron noted that the $50,000 which will be transferred is
not money from the sale of the Electric Plant Board, but it is interest that
has been earned from the sale.
That brings the total blacktopping budget to approximately $105,000.
The council reviewed a list of streets that are in need of resurfacing.
Catron said that the priority will be with the streets that are in the
worst repair, as well as streets that are very heavily traveled.
Following is the list of streets included for blacktopping in 2009:
Winna Drive, Sunset Boulevard, Wayne Drive, Sunset Drive, Sloan Drive,
McKinley/Sexton Road, Webster Drive, Carter Road, Cherry Street, Home-stead
Lane, Dugan Street, Vine Street, Worsham Lane, High Street, Boone Street,
Jasper Street, Parker Street and Colonial Estates.
