6-16-10 — Wayne County has joined the list of counties that have been designated for Individual Assistance as part of Kentucky's federal disaster declaration, according to officials from the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA).
The declaration comes after last month's floods and the program can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs, and other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other assistance programs.
Also low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration are available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.
"The number one thing people have to do is, even if they've contacted our office, they must register their case with FEMA," stated Wayne County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin. "The earlier work in our county was to show loss, now we need anyone that suffered loss or
damage to call FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or complete an
application online at www.disasterassistance.gov. We encourage anyone
that has suffered damage from the flooding to document the loss, save
any repair receipts and contact FEMA."
Operators are staffed from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily, until further notice. Requests may also be made online at the website.
