9-22-10 — County tax rates will remain the same for 2010, following action
taken by the Wayne County Fiscal Court during a special meeting held
on Tuesday, September 14.
Magistrates agreed with the recommendation of County Judge-Executive
Greg Rankin to keep all rates the same.
The compensating rate for real and personal property actually
reflected a slight increase in those taxes, but Rankin said he would
not recommend the change.
The real property rate will remain at 12.6 cents per hundred dollars
assessed value, while the personal property rate will remain at 33.25
cents per hundred dollars assessed value. The compensating rate for
real property was 13.9 cents, while the compensating rate for
personal property was 33.8 cents.
The rate for motor vehicles will remain at 10.2 cents per hundred
dollars assessed value. The compensating rate for motor vehicles was
the same.
Rankin said the current budget is based on the same rates as the
county had in 2009.
"That is what we have budgeted for," stated Rankin.
Also during the meeting, the court received copies of rates approved
by all the taxing districts in the county. No action is required by
fiscal court on those rates.
