7-14-10 — A Wayne County man was seriously injured Thursday evening, after the
tractor he was driving was struck by a vehicle along East KY 90 near
Touristville.
According to Wayne County Deputy Tommy Spencer, Leroy Hunter was flown
from the scene of the crash for treatment of injuries he sustained. Hunter
was operating a tractor on the shoulder of KY 90, when he was struck by a
vehicle driven by Jessica Ballenger, of Monticello.
Both vehicles were traveling east, according to reports. The collision
occurred at approximately 6:46 p.m.
Witnesses told the deputy that the Ballenger vehicle traveled onto the
shoulder of the road and clipped the tractor. They said the tractor flipped
at least four times.
Spencer said a tractor tire broke loose and landed on Hunter.
Hunter was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in
Lexington.
The Sheriff¹s Depart-ment was assisted at the scene by the Monticello
Fire Department and Wayne County EMS.
