1-5-11 — The father of a toddler who died after drinking drain cleaner has been released from jail on a $25,000 surety bond, after bond conditions were modified during a review of the case in Wayne Circuit Court on Tuesday, December 21.
Bryan Daniels had been lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center since May 2009, after his 20-month-old son drank the drain cleaner that officials said had been used to cook methamphetamine. Daniels is charged with murder, manufacturing methamphetamine, controlled substance endangerment to a child first degree and engaging in organized crime. According to officials at the Wayne County Detention Center, he was released on the surety bond on Thursday, December 23.
Until last week, Daniels had been incarcerated under a $250,000 bond. But during the review, Circuit Judge Vernon Miniard, Jr., agreed that Daniels could be released on a $25,000 surety bond and set several conditions to that release.
Miniard said that Daniels would have to remain on home incarceration at the residence of his parents, that he would have to submit to random drug testing and that he would have a 9 p.m. curfew.
The trial for Daniels and five other defendants who are charged in connection with the death of the toddler is set for January 27 in Wayne Circuit Court.
The baby's mother was also charged in connection with the death, but since she is a juvenile her case was handled in juvenile court. Those records are unavailable.
