Monticello — The Wayne County Rescue Squad and Sheriff's units from Wayne County and
Clinton County spent several hours early Friday morning searching for a
possible downed aircraft in the Windy community. The local 911 dispatch
center received a call at approximately 12:03 a.m. Friday reporting a
possible plane crash.
The caller advised he and another man were working and heard what
appeared to be an airplane passing overhead with the engine stalling. The
caller told officials that the plane appeared to be headed toward Clinton
County. The witnesses told authorities that they heard a very loud booming
noise after the plane passed over them.
Units spent several hours searching along the highways and side roads in
the area along KY 90 and Highway 200 trying to detect any suspicious odor or
spot any wreckage or flames. They were also in the area on 4-wheelers trying
to locate anything in the mountains.
The FAA informed local officials that they had received no reports of
flights encountering any difficulty in the area. The search was suspended
Friday morning.
