District Two Magistrate Darrell Dishman resigns

Melodie Phelps, News Editor

Monticello — District Two Magistrate Darrell Dishman has resigned his seat on the

Wayne County Fiscal Court, as he continues to battle cancer.

Dishman's letter of resignation was read by County Judge-Executive Greg

Rankin at the conclusion of the fiscal court meeting held on Thursday,

January 14.

Dishman cited his ongoing battle with cancer as his reason for resigning

in the letter. He noted that it had been a pleasure to serve with the

members of fiscal court.

"You will be greatly missed as a magistrate," said Rankin, as he

finished reading Dishman's letter.

Dishman was elected as District Two Magistrate in 2006 and was beginning

the final year of his term.

Rankin stated on Friday morning that the Governor's office has been

notified of the vacancy, and officials expect that an appointment will be

made soon to fill the magisterial seat.

The individual who is appointed will serve until the November general

election.

"He has worked extremely hard for his district," noted Rankin. "Not only

has he been a good magistrate, he has also been a good friend. He will be

missed by everyone on the court."

Following is a letter that Dishman wrote and submitted to The Outlook

for publication.

"It has been a pleasure to serve the people of my district. As many of

you know, I have been battling cancer for the past year. Due to this

illness, I have decided that in the best interest of my family and I, as

well as the constituents of District Two, that I resign that post effective

January 13, 2010. It has been an honor to serve on the Wayne County Fiscal

Court and even more of a blessing to feel the outpouring of support and

prayers from all of you. I wish to say thank you and God bless each of you."
