Edwards files as candidate for Mayor

CNHI

6-30-10 —     City Councilman Jeffrey Edwards has filed as a candidate for Mayor of Monticello. He announced his candidacy in a press release issued to localmedia on Tuesday, June 15.

³It is clearly a time for a new generation of leadership, one that will bring a new outlook and a clear direction,² stated Edwards. ³I am committed

to providing the kind of strong, active and caring leadership that can moveMonticello forward into the future.²

³During these trying economic times, many families are faced with difficult decisions regarding their own personal finances,² he continued.

³This is no different for our city.  As your next mayor, I will promote a culture of fiscal responsibility and transparency at city hall that will make every citizen proud.²

Edwards stated that he would encourage citizen participation by utilizing new technologies like email notifications, websites and our own

cable system to make the public more aware of the day-to-day activities of your city government, make financial information more easily accessible to

the ordinary citizen and encourage feedback to your local elected officials.²

³I will roll up my sleeves and work around the clock to bring jobs to Monticello and also work with our often under-appreciated existing businesses, which are the backbone of our economy, in order to help them

thrive and expand,² said Edwards.

Edwards is currently serving his third term on the Monticello City Council. He is a real estate broker with Earl Group, Realtors.

Incumbent Mayor Kenneth Catron is the only other candidate who has filed so far for the office.

The filing deadline for the mayoral race, as well as other non-partisan races that will appear on the November ballot, is Tuesday, August 10 at 4
