Wayne County board approves bus purchase

9-29-10 —   The Wayne County School District will purchase five new buses to

help update its fleet, following action taken by the school board on

Monday, September 20. The board approved a resolution authorizing the

execution of a lease with KISTA for acquisition of the new buses.

Superintendent John Dalton noted that many of the buses in the

district's fleet have attained a lot of miles and are requiring quite

a bit of maintenance. He noted that the district paid off a previous

bond issue last year for the purchase of buses and recommended that

same amount be kept in the budget and be used to purchase the five

new buses.

Also during the meeting the board approved the working budget for

the current school year. Dalton noted that this is the same budget

that the district is currently operating under, but with more refined

numbers.

He added that the board may have to come back and amend the budget

to include other funding that the district will receive. While

Kentucky did not receive funds through the Race to the Top Program,

they were awarded federal funding through the Education Jobs Fund

Program.

Dalton said he hasn't heard any specific figures yet. The one-time

boost in funding must be spent by September 2012.

The meeting was hosted by Bell Elementary, where several students

shared their impressions of the elementary school with board members

and visitors. Principal Donna Rice showed a video with pictures from

the recent high attendance day activities at the school.

    In other action, the board:

    • Approved the Wayne County School District Food Service Department

disclosure of free and reduced price information agreement, which is

required.

    • Approved the district's school meal charge policy.

    • Approved an out-of-state trip for the Wayne County girls and boys

basketball teams to Indianapolis, Ind. on November 12.

    • Approved a facility request for use of the Pickrell Auditorium on

November 20 for the annual Miss Monticello/Wayne County Area

Scholarship Program.

    • Went into executive session to discuss pending litigation.
