Telecom Board hears update on Phase I of the fiber project

By Melodie Phelps, News Editor

5-4-10 —     The Telecommuni-cations Board met in regular session on Wednesday, April

21, and board members heard an update regarding Phase I of the fiber

project.

Board chairman Greg Latham, David Rowland with the Lake Cumberland Area

Development District, Jessie Fulton with Com- munity Telecom Services, and

Steve Reed with Finley Engineering recently rode around and looked at the

lines of the fiber portion of the project. Latham noted that they are

expecting close-out documents for that part of the project soon.

Also included in the first phase is the purchase of new head end

equipment. Requests for proposals for the equipment had been sent out and

bids were opened last Friday. Latham said he expected a decision to be made

regarding bids sometime this week.

After the bids are approved, he noted that the equipment can be included

on the financial statements for Community Telecom Services and that will be

forwarded to RUS officials in Washington, D.C. Hopefully at that point, RUS

funds, which were awarded for the remainder of this project several years

ago, will become available.

Outlook will delay publication of May 19 edition by one day

In order to provide readers with coverage of the primary election, The

Wayne County Outlook will delay the publication of its May 19 edition by one

day.

Instead of being available in the racks on Tuesday, May 18, The Outlook

will be available on Wednesday, May 19.

"We debated whether to hold the edition for a day, which can be a little

frustrating for our readers, but in the end we decided it would be best to

wait the extra day and include vote totals and election results," stated

Wayne County Outlook publisher Melinda Jones.

Deadlines for the May 19 edition of The Outlook will remain the same,

according to Jones.

The May 19 edition of The Outlook will be available on Wednesday morning

in racks and in local stores.

Subscribers will receive their papers in the mail on Thursday, instead

of Wednesday.
