8-25-10 — Employees with the Monticello Utility Commis-sion will soon stop hanging delinquent notices for past due bills on customers' doors, following action taken by board members during their regular monthly meeting last week.
According to Manager Gene Jones, a list of past due accounts is generated every month and each meter reader would take the section of that list that he covered and hang past due notices on the customers' door. This was done as a courtesy to the customers, but it meant the meter readers were making an extra trip to the customers' residences which resulted in a higher fuel cost for the utility commission.
Eliminating the additional trip the meter readers were making by hanging the delinquent notices on customers' doors would lower the fuel cost and result in a savings for the utility commission.
Board members voted to stop hanging the delinquent notices for past due bills, after providing proper notice to customers.
In other news, the board:
• approved a proposal from Southeastern Lab to clean and repair the filters at the water treatment plant.
• appointed Gene Jones as the Monticello Utility Commission's delegate to the Kentucky Rural Water Conference.
• heard departmental reports for July.
• hired an additional operator at the water plant.
