Property owners can still pay delinquent tax bills

CNHI

8-18-10 —     Property owners who have delinquent taxes still have time to set up a payment plan with the County Attorney's Office prior to the August 17 tax sale.

Assistant County Attorney Rod Tejeda said that several property owners have already set up payment plans which will protect them from third party purchasers who could purchase the delinquent bills and place a tax lien on the property.

Tejeda noted that property owners who have delinquent taxes for years previous to 2009 and those tax bills have not yet been sold can set up a payment plan for the total amount. He said that money will be applied first to the oldest tax bill.

As long as taxpayers stick by the payment plan that is set up, their delinquent tax bills will be protected from a sale to a third party purchaser.
