5-25-10 — The Monticello Police Department along with other law enforcement
agencies will be conducting random traffic stops as well as road checks,
enforcing traffic laws and making sure you are buckled up and driving sober
during the Memorial Day holiday.
Seat belts clearly save lives, but unfortunately too many folks still
need a tough reminder. That's why law enforcement agencies across Kentucky
are participating in the aggressive national "Click It or Ticket"
enforcement campaign from May 24 through June 6.
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
indicate that seat belts, when worn correctly, reduce the risk of dying by
45 percent for front-seat occupants in passenger cars, and by 60 percent for
occupants in pickup trucks, SUVs and mini vans. According to NHTSA, regular
seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce
fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. The "Click It or Ticket" campaign is a
great way to get people to buckle up.
Local motorists should be prepared for stepped up "Click It or Ticket"
activities that will take place around the clock. If law enforcement finds
you on the road unbuckled anytime or anywhere, you could receive a ticket.
If you buckle up, you'll save the cost of a ticket, which will be a fine
and possible court costs from $178 to $183, and maybe even save a life‹maybe
your own.
