Monticello — Work is underway to clear the area that will soon be home to the "Big
South Fork Gateway Circuit of Trails". TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky
(TOUR SEKY) held a community meeting March 4 in Monticello to discuss the
project. Nearly 20 community members came out to support and learn more
about the project.
"The Big South Fork Gateway Circuit of Trails" grant is funded in part
by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and was written by and awarded
to TOUR SEKY. This grant will help with the development and creation of a
trail system in Wayne County, which will be located at Memorial Park. In
addition, this system will promote trails in Wayne, Whitley and McCreary
counties. The trail system will feature three trails to be utilized for
hiking and biking.
The Wayne County High School "Our Town" Club and the Wayne Co. High
School J.R.O.T.C have already helped with trash pick-up at the site. So far,
more than 15 bags of trash have been cleared from the area.
The "Our Town Club" is TOUR SEKY's School club program. For more
