Monticello — The Monticello Trojans hosted Clinton County on Thursday, February 4.

Coach Trevis Upchurch saw some things he liked from his team, despite their

56-46 loss to the Bulldogs.

"We are doing some things better, we just need to do them more consistently, " said Upchurch. "I was real proud of our team. "

Monticello led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, but like in last contest with McCreary Central, the Trojans had shooting problems in the second quarter. The Bulldogs scored 16 points in that stanza, while Monticello managed only 7.

Clinton County led 27-20 at the half.

In the third quarter, Monticello battled back to within 2, 34-32.

Clinton County outscored Monticello 22-14 in the final quarter to take the win.

"Our kids played really hard and competed well and that made it a fun game, " said Upchurch. "Clinton County made some big shots late and hit their free throws to secure the win, so we must tip our hat to them. "

The Trojans were led by Derrick Peyton with 18 points and Chase Lowe with 16 points. Austin Foster added 7 points for the Trojans.

Monticello hit 14 of 46 from the field for 30 percent. They were 7 of 22 on 3-pointers for 31 percent. From the charity stripe, the Trojans hit 11 of 20 for 50 percent.

Next up for the Trojans was a Friday night game at Cumberland County.
