Memorial Park holds a lot of memories for many peopleā€¹from hitting their first baseball to sitting down for a picnic lunch with family members. The park hosts many events that bring people together. This weekend, everyone will have the chance to return the favor at the Kiwanis Family Fun Night, which is set for Saturday, August 4.

"This is the chance to give back to a place that has meant so much to so many people," said Shannon Hutchinson, vice-president of the Kiwanis Club.

With a host of games and tournaments, like entertainment and good food, there will be something for everyone in the family to enjoy. And the best part is that all the money raised Saturday will go toward the Kiwanis T-Ball Field renovations and Memorial Park. Admission will be $5 a car load or $1 for an individual.

Family Fun Night begins at 5 p.m., which is when the Mini Olympics is scheduled. Kids can compete in events like the 50 yard dash, the 100 yard dash, the football throw, the softball ball throw, and the wheelbarrow race.

Signups for the horseshoe and corn hole tournaments will be held from 5 until 6 p.m. Competition will begin at 6 p.m.

That's also when Sage Knoll will take the stage. Klassyc Tymes is scheduled to perform at about 7:15 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m.

Wayne County American Idol is set for 8 p.m. Contestants have been selected to represent several local businesses and they will perform for the crowd. Donation buckets will be set up for each contestant, and every $1 donation is considered a vote. Hutchinson noted that the performer with the largest number of donations will win the contest.

There will be a variety of food items prepared at the event, including hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and tenderloin.

This is the first time the Kiwanis Club has sponsored this type of event, but members are excited about the opportunity to help the park.

"This is kind of like park appreciation day," said Hutchinson. "Every dollar raised goes straight to the park."

Anyone who needs more information should contact Hutchinson or Kiwanis Club president Gary Dick.
