There will be two candidates on the ballot for a special Monticello
City Council election this fall.
Scott Gehring, who has been appointed to serve an interim term on
the council, filed his paperwork as a candidate on Tuesday, June 4.
The deadline to file for the special election was at 4 p.m. on June
4. Lana Hoskins had previously filed as a candidate for the council
seat. Hoskins ran for Monticello City Council during the 2018 election.
The council seat was vacated earlier this year, when Scott Flynn,
who was elected in 2018, moved out of the city limits and had to
resign the position. The council then appointed Gehring to serve on
the council until the special election is held in November.
The winner of the special council race will take office the day after the election.
