The Wayne County Grand Jury met on Tuesday, July 16. Following are 
indictments that were returned.
    • Gary Sweet was indicted for first degree rape, incest, and 
persistent felony offender first degree. The same indictment also 
charged Wilma West with complicity to rape first degree and 
complicity to incest.
    • Scottie Abbott was indicted for burglary second degree and theft 
by unlawful taking under $500.
    • Kynna Stephens was indicted for bail jumping first degree.
    • Melissa Tester was indicted for burglary third degree, criminal 
possession of a forged instrument second degree and theft by 
deception under $500.
    • Jesse Payne was indicted for criminal possession of a forged 
instrument first degree.
    • Brock Byers was indicted for two counts of trafficking in a 
controlled substance first degree while in possession of a firearm, 
two counts of possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm by a 
convicted felon, possession of marijuana, possession of a defaced 
firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, promoting contraband first 
degree, tampering with physical evidence and persistent felony 
offender second degree. Byers was also named in a second indictment 
which charged him with two counts of trafficking in a controlled 
substance first degree, trafficking in a controlled substance second 
degree, trafficking in marijuana under eight ounces, promoting 
contraband first degree, tampering with physical evidence and 
persistent felony offender second degree.
    • Travis McDowell was indicted for burglary third degree, criminal 
mischief first degree and theft by unlawful taking over $500. 
McDowell was also named in another indictment on charges of public 
intoxication, burglary third degree, criminal mischief second degree 
and theft by unlawful taking under $500.
    • Milkayla Buster was indicted for criminal mischief first degree.
    • Landan Kirk was indicted for unlawful imprisonment first degree 
and fourth degree assault.
    • Tarisha McGinnis was indicted for trafficking in a controlled 
substance first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    • David Carrender was indicted for trafficking in a controlled 
substance first degree, possession of marijuana and possession of 
drug paraphernalia.
    • Rodney Russell was indicted for possession of a controlled 
substance first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    • Sara Smith was indicted for D.U.I., possession of marijuana, 
trafficking in a controlled substance first degree, possession of 
drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, disregarding a 
stop sign and license to be in possession.
    • William Lee was indicted for trafficking in marijuana while in 
possession of a firearm and trafficking in marijuana over eight 
ounces but under five pounds while in possession of a firearm. The 
indictment also charged Debora A. Roysdon and Charity Combs with 
possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Roysdon was also 
indicted for possession of a controlled substance first degree.
    • James Higdon and John Haas were indicted for receiving stolen 
property over $500. Higdon, Haas and Phillip Canter were indicted for 
engaging in organized crime. Higdon was also indicted for persistent 
felony offender first degree. A separate indictment charges Canter 
and Higdon with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, criminal 
mischief second degree and theft by unlawful taking under $500. 
Higdon was also indicted for persistent felony offender first degree.
    Readers are reminded that indictments do not indicate guilt, only 
that further court action is necessary in a case. Indictments are public record and are filed in the Wayne Circuit Clerk's Office.
