    Rector's Flat will be having  Vacation Bible School June 20-24 from

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is "Big Apple Adventure," kick-off will

    Faith United Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School 

June 20-24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This year's theme is "Inside Out and

    Rogers Grove Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School 

starting on Sunday, June 19 and continuing through Friday, June 24. 

Classes will start at 6 p.m. and end at 8:15. There will be classes 

for both children and adults. There will also be a picnic on Friday.

HUFFAKER/MORGAN REUNION

    The Huffaker/Morgan reunion will be held this Saturday, June 18 at 

10 a.m. at the Monticello United Methodist Church which is located at 

145 Michigan Ave. Lunch will be served at noon. Please bring a 

covered dish and come visit with family and friends.

    Parnell Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School this

KY PROUD FOOD PRESERVATION AND COMMUNITY CANNING DAYS

    KY Proud Food Preservation and Community Canning Days are here. 

Intro. to Food Preservation and Pressure Canning will be held on June 

16 at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Pickles and Relishes will be on June 

28 at 6 p.m.; KY Proud Recipe Taste Testing (EXPO) will be July 7 at 

10 a.m., 12 noon, 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.; Tomatoes, Soups and Salsa will 

be on July 25 at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Open canning days will be 

August 1-5 and 8-12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can come use our 

pressure canners, hot water bath canners and kitchens to can your 

produce. FCS staff will be on hand to assist and answer any questions.

    All classes will be held at the Wayne County Cooperative Extension

KENTUCKY FOOTHILLS THIRD ANNUAL EAGLES NEST CAMP MEETING 2011

    The Kentucky Foothills Third Annual Eagles Nest Camp Meeting will be

held at the Albany Fairgrounds July 14-16 from 6-7 p.m. The special 

singers will be The Blantons, The Schofields and Shawna Huesman. 

There will be a special youth service. The special preaching will be 

done by Dr. Todd Br. Zike, Mr. Donnie Bunch and evangelist Mike 

Blanton. Call for RV hookups-as we have some free limited spaces.

LOVELL REUNION

    The Lovell Reunion will be held July 2 beginning at 10 a.m. at the 

Boston Farm at 579 Boston Rd., Monticello, Ky. The farm is located 

off Hwy. 1275 between Mill Springs Park and Conley Bottom Road. The 

reunion is for descendents of Micajah and Matilda Kelly Lovell. A 

potluck lunch will be served around noon.

    An auction will be held on Saturday, June 25 at the Monticello-Wayne

County Park at 11:30 a.m. to help raise funds to buy items necessary 

to open a Veterans Assisted Care Home on Kendrick Ave. The funds will 

go to buy items such as dressers, twin beds, dinette tables and more.

VETERANS ASSISTANCE OFFICER TO ASSIST AREA VETERANS

    Gary D. Jones, Field Representative for the Kentucky Dept. of 

Veterans Affairs, will be available to assist area veterans in Wayne 

County at the National Guard Armory on Tuesday, June 21 from 9 a.m. 

to 12 noon. Veterans and their families will be provided counseling 

and assistance in filing claims for state and federal benefits. 

Veterans should bring a copy of their DD214 (record of military 

service) with them, if they have it and any other documents they feel

LET'S HIKE ON THE LONGEST DAY TO PLAY

    On June 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can enjoy guided hikes on the

new hiking trails. There will be hikes led at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 

p.m. Wayne County Schools will be providing lunch to participants 18 

and under at 11:30 a.m.

    Educational displays and active games will be available next to the

Tot Lot in the back of the park, at the trail entrance. There will 

also be a free swim night at the ASPIRE Center from 6-8 p.m.

UPCHURCH REUNION

    All Upchurch relatives are invited to the Upchurch reunion on 

Saturday, June 18 at 12 noon at the ASPIRE Center.

UNITED WAY OF SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY 26TH ANNUAL GOLF SCRAMBLE

    The United Way of South Central Kentucky 26th Annual Golf Scramble 

will be held on Wednesday, August 3, at noon at Eagle's Nest Country 

Club.  There is a four-person scramble format (golfers must wear 

collared shirts), There is a cost of $75 per player or $300 per team 

which includes green fees, carts, prizes, mulligans and skirts. The 

deadline for entries is August 1.

AMERICAN RED CROSS

    Since the end of March, the American Red Cross has responded to a 

string of deadly tornadoes and flooding in several states from 

Mississippi to Montana. Through community support and donations we 

are able to continue to provide disaster relief. We need volunteers 

and local businesses to assist and right now the need is high. The 

Lake Cumberland Area Chapter of the American Red Cross relies on the 

generosity of others to provide these vital services. For more

CAMP PROMISE

    Camp Promise-Bereavement Camp for Kids is sponsored by Hospice of 

Lake Cumberland. Camp Promise is a free overnight camp designed to 

help children ages 6-16 cope with the loss of  a loved one. Children 

participate in activities that inform, educate and provide 

opportunities to talk about the very difficult aspects of loss. The 

camp also includes outdoor activities such as pond fishing, horse 

back riding and games. The game is held in Russell County at Lily 

Creek Pay Lake. The camp is led by Hospice staff and volunteers. It 

will be held June 10 and 11 and is open to any child who has

    The late Willie and Florence Turpin family reunion will be held on 

Sunday, June 12 at the Monticello/Wayne County Memorial Park in the

PRESERVATION SKILLS CLASSES

    On Thursday, June 16 the Cooperative Extension Office will be 

holding three canning classes at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the 

lower level kitchen. This will be a great starter course for those 

just learning to can. Some of the things you will learn is how to 

properly and safely use a pressure canner, use the water bath method, 

how to freeze, and dry foods. Please call the Cooperative Extension

BARNETT REUNION

    The ancestors of the late Mahala and John Shelby (Cody) Barnett will

meet at the large shelter house at the Monticello/Wayne County 

Memorial Park on Saturday, June 18. Lunch will start at 12 noon. 

Please bring a covered dish or two, old photos and stories to share.

    A local chapter of The Compassionate Friends has been started in the

Monticello area. The Compassionate Friends is a mutual assistance, 

self-help organization offering friendship and understanding to 

families who have experienced the death of a child. The organization 

welcomes bereaved parents, adult siblings, grandparents, and 

immediate family members to its meetings.

    Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at Monticello 

United Methodist Church, 145 Michigan Avenue at 7 p.m. For additional

    An Open Grief Support Group, hosted by Hospice of Lake Cumberland,
