Burchett pleads not guilty to murder charges

The man accused of murdering his parents inside their home appeared before Clinton Circuit Judge Eddie C. Lovelace last week to hear that the Clinton County Grand Jury had returned two indictments of murder against him.

Jonathan Burchett was bound in handcuffs and leg shackles as he was brought into the Clinton County Courtroom Tuesday, September 7. He was also wearing a bullet proof vest.

Burchett was arrested by the Monticello Police Department two days before the bodies of his parents, Ronnie Burchett, 56, and Charlonia Burchett, 54, were found in their home near the Clinton-Wayne County line. Jonathan Burchett was taken into custody after local police stopped him and another man on Evelyn Avenue and found items in their car that officials said implicated the two men in a break-in at a store near Conley Bottom.

Burchett was originally arrested on an outstanding warrant for a forged check. Kentucky State Police later charged him with murder. Burchett has remained lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center throughout the investigation.
